Lovers of fish sauce have an appointment in Roses from June 21 to 30

From June 21 to 30, Roses celebrates a new edition of the Suquet de Peix gastronomic campaign, the star dish of local gastronomy. A total of twelve Rosin restaurants will offer menus that will have suquet as the main course, accompanied by a wide variety of starters and desserts, always paired with DO Empordà wines.

With monkfish, squid, prawns, scorpora, sea bream, turbot, sea bass, sea bream... the fish stew is adapted to the tastes and requirements of all palates and lovers of this traditional fisherman's dish have the opportunity to check - it in Roses, being able to choose between thirteen different proposals throughout the ten days that the campaign will last.

The suquet campaign thus offers in each new edition a wide sample of the versatility of a traditional root recipe that has evolved over the years and where each chef puts his personal style. The participating restaurants are: Avenida, Bitákora, Ca la Valeria, El Mirador de l'Almadrava, El Trull, Express 1961, Falconera, La Cala, l'Àncora, Risech, Roc Fort and Sumac.


Fishery origin

The original recipe prepared by the fishermen during their working days consisted of potatoes and morralla, those pieces of fish that are less expensive at the market. Over time, local restaurants have reinterpreted that preparation in a hundred ways, replacing the morralla with fish such as monkfish, grouper, sea bream, conger, crayfish...or innovating in the preparation of this versatile dish.

The gastronomic campaign dedicated to fish stew has already become a classic in Roses, which promotes and highlights local restaurants and local products, such as fresh fish from Roses and wines from the Empordà.


Suquet de Peix and DO Empordà wines, a winning combination

The perfect pairing to all these tasty menus is provided by the excellent wines of the DO Empordà. For this reason, the participating restaurants, as main prescribers of local products, recommend the appropriate wine from the DO Empordà to accompany each of the menus. In this way, by pairing the products of the sea and the land, you can savor all the essence of the Empordà.

 

End of campaign with the fishermen of Roses for Sant Pere

This year's campaign returns to the traditional dates around the feast of Sant Pere, patron saint of fishermen.

The party begins on the evening of Friday 28 June, with the celebration of the traditional revetlla de Sant Pere with an animated dance by the Montecarlo orchestra.

The next day, Sant Pere's Day, on the esplanade in front of Plaça de Sant Pere, the fishermen will offer a popular tasting of fish stew, just as it was done years ago. From 10am there will be the official event with the local authorities, a demonstration of art and musical entertainment with a concert of habaneras. From 12.30 p.m. fish stew cooked by Roses fishermen will be served with DO Empordà wine.


Attractive proximity

The Roses fish sauce campaign is promoted through different advertising and communication actions in local markets (Empordà, Garrotxa, Ripollès, Osona, Girona, Catalonia, Andorra and southern and central France). It is mainly aimed at a public interested in discovering the gastronomic offer, who value the good work of the chefs and who take advantage of the demand for suquet to enjoy Roses and its exceptional cultural, natural and gastronomic heritage.
