The cleaning of the Port Esportiu seabed collects 610 kg of waste plus the container.
On Sunday 22nd October, the Club Badia de Roses organised the XX Neteja del fons mar, an annual event held in collaboration with the Port Esportiu de Roses, Roses Zero Plastics and the City Council's Department of the Environment, which on this occasion made it possible to remove a total of 450 kg of waste from the seabed of Platja de Palangrers.
The specific area where action was taken on Sunday was the seabed of the Platja de Palangrers beach and the land area of the beach and the second moll's breakwater, and allowed the extraction of a large quantity of glass ampoules, caps, plastic bottles, plastic bags and a large container.
Port de Roses is collaborating with this initiative with the contribution of professionals from its staff to remove these materials from the seabed, as well as skippers in charge of driving and handling two boats for waste collection. Also taking part this afternoon were the mayor of Roses, Josep Mª Martínez, the councillor for Tourism and Economic Promotion and current president of the Port of Roses, Fèlix Llorens, and the councillor for the Environment of Roses, Lluís Espada.
With actions like this, the Port Esportiu complies with the environmental requirements demanded by Bandera Blava, as well as with the EMAS and ISO 14001 certifications it has held since 2007, which guarantee the minimisation of the port's activity on the environment, acting on aspects such as the reduction of the consumption of energy resources and water, the correct management of waste, the control of anchoring in the canals and beaches of the municipality, or the collection of floating waste from the coast, among others.
