Next Friday, August 7, Roses begins the celebration of its Festa Major, with a program that will last until the 16th and that will once again combine tradition and new proposals to offer activities aimed at all audiences. Music, popular culture, shows, sports and family activities will fill the streets and squares of the municipality for ten days, which will also feature two outstanding novelties: a theatrical opening speech and the creation of the Barraquetes children's space.

The celebration will begin on Friday, August 7th with an opening ceremony that this year will surprise everyone. The Roses Theatre Group will be in charge of officially opening the Festa Major with a theatrical opening speech , an innovative proposal created especially for the occasion that will turn the facade of the City Hall, in Plaça de Catalunya, into a vertical stage.

Throughout the performance, different characters will appear who, with humor and references to the history and day-to-day life of Roses, will welcome the festivities with a unique show.

Barraquetes, the epicenter of the children's festival

This year, the impossibility of installing the fairs and attractions in the old Bahía campsite has led the City Council to devise an alternative leisure activity for children and families . The result is the Barraquetes area , one of the great new features of this year's festival which, between August 11 and 16, will offer a stable program every afternoon full of activities, music and entertainment, to celebrate the Festa Major in an environment designed for the enjoyment of young and old.

Every afternoon, starting at 7 p.m. , the Xtrem Race recreational circuit will open, a fun obstacle course that will have two routes of 65 meters long each , which will be complemented by a wide range of workshops : face painting, giant games and water games, the Jardí dels Petits for children from 0 to 3 years old... maintaining a proposal designed for children and families to share a fun and participatory experience.

As a finale, each day will feature a family show with some of the country's leading children's entertainment groups: Los Herrerita and BotProject will bring the world of circus closer on Tuesday the 11th, on Wednesday the party will arrive with Disco per Xics , on Thursday Rikus will present the show 'Amb ganes de gresca', on Friday Jordi Tonietti, in band format, will offer a concert full of rhythm and energy, on Saturday Ambauka will put on the final musical show and on Sunday the program will close with Atrapasomnis .

From Barraquetes... to Barraques: non-stop music and fun

From 11 p.m., the venue will continue with the program where music will once again play a leading role, with free concerts from the Barraques de Roses that will bring together artists and groups for all tastes. The lineup includes performances by Els Catarres, Gira105, a tribute to Queen with Momo, Miki Núñez, Banda Neón, Goa Pop, Orquestra Diversiones and Big Mouthers , as well as sessions by DJ Lia Jensen, Mon DJ and DJ Capde.

Traditions, sports, distinctions... and lots of fun

The program also maintains the most traditional and participatory events of the Festa Major, such as the parade of the Giants of Roses, the matinees, the solemn service, the sardanas, the XXV Trobada Gegantera, the cucanyes at sea, the swimming races, the local Beach Volleyball championship, the habaneras, the correfoc, the popular dances and the fireworks display, which will put an end to the festival on the night of August 16.

After the success achieved last year, the Mas de les Figueres remains as the setting for the afternoon of the Festa Major. The program also includes the theatrical performance You Say Tomato , theatrical night visits to the Castell de la Trinitat, starry nights with astronomical observation and the awarding of the Silver Drachma of Roses , one of the most emblematic institutional acts of the Festa Major.
