Repairs to the Montjoi to Jóncols road to recover sections damaged by rain and improve accessibility
The Infrastructure and Services Department of the Roses City Council is currently carrying out repair work on the Montjoi to Jóncols road. The work is in response to the detection of different sections damaged due to the episodes of rain last year, which affected the conditions of road traffic on this communication route between different areas of Cap de Creus.
The public road that runs between Montjoi and Jóncols, with an approximate length of 6,300 meters, is one of the main roads of the Cap de Creus Natural Park and the only communication link between several inhabited centers of Roses. In addition to the intense traffic during the tourist season, the garbage collection truck circulates throughout the year, as well as individuals and other public services that access it regularly.
The councilor for Infrastructure and Public Services of Roses, Lluís Espada, explains that " this action was necessary to guarantee safety and mobility with optimal conditions in a sensitive natural environment like this. The episodes of rain last year have caused damage due to water runoff and the formation of puddles that made it difficult for both residents and public services to circulate, so a more in-depth intervention than usual maintenance was required ."
Thus, beyond the earth esplanade that is carried out periodically by the municipal company Rosersa, this year the recovery of the damaged sections has been entrusted to a specialized company equipped with the necessary heavy machinery. The tasks consist of extracting material from the edges of the road to create slopes and water outlets, recovering the existing granular material to form an extended base layer, leveling and compacting the damaged sections of road and extracting live rock in some points where it is required.
The work is expected to be completed by the end of this March, allowing the track to return to the conditions necessary for traffic safety. The total cost of the work is €40,914.
