The City Council's Infrastructure and Public Services Department has been working since Monday to clean and recover the beaches and sections of the promenade affected by the storms of recent days. In addition to the usual displacement and accumulation of sand during storms, this time there has been a massive arrival of jellyfish of the 'Barquetes de Sant Pere' species, which will also be removed as soon as weather conditions allow the sand to dry.

The City Council's Infrastructure and Public Services Department has been working since Monday to clean and recover the beaches and sections of the promenade affected by the storms of recent days. In addition to the usual displacement and accumulation of sand during storms, this time there has been a massive arrival of jellyfish of the 'Barquetes de Sant Pere' species , which will also be removed as soon as weather conditions allow the sand to dry.

The weather experienced throughout the month of March, with episodes of easterly winds and strong waves, has caused general effects on the Rosinca beaches, and especially on the beaches of La Punta, Nova, Salatar and Santa Margarida, areas that, due to their characteristics and due to marine dynamics, experience significant sand displacements in these episodes.

Since this Monday, the removal of the sand accumulated on the Santa Margarida promenade has been carried out , on the one hand, and work is also being done on the distribution of the sand accumulated on the beaches. The tasks will continue over the next few days and once the sand is dry, until the width and leveling of the affected beaches are fully recovered: Santa Margarida, Salatar, Nova, la Punta, Segon Moll, Canyelles and Almadrava.

Accumulation of 'Saint Peter's boats'

The high tides experienced have produced an additional problem in Roses this time: the arrival of a large number of jellyfish known as 'Barquetes de Sant Pere', a species that is characterized by its small size, bluish color and for producing a strong odor. The effect of the swell has caused their accumulation on the beaches of Roses, with a special incidence on those of Santa Margarida, Canyelles and Almadrava.

The councilor for Infrastructure and Services, Lluís Espada, points out that 'we inspect the areas daily and we are prepared to proceed with the removal of these jellyfish as soon as the sun shines and the sand from the beaches can dry. Now, with the wet beaches, the sieves used for these extractions would not be able to make the correct separation and there would be a significant loss of sand on the beaches that we must avoid .
