The swimming area of Almadrava beach will remain closed all weekend
The City Council will maintain the preventive closure of the bathing area of the Almadrava beach throughout the entire day today, Friday, and also during Saturday and Sunday. On Monday morning, the council's security and environmental services will make a new assessment of the state of the water.
The sinking of a fishing vessel in front of the Almadrava beach that occurred yesterday, which caused a leak of diesel into the sea, activated the special emergency plan for accidental pollution at sea, known as CAMCAT. Firefighters from the Generalitat and Salvament Marítim placed containment barriers to prevent the diesel stain from spreading, while the underwater teams of the Special Action Group (GRAE) succeeded in the early afternoon in plugging the escape from sunken fishing boat.
Roses City Council, for its part, prohibited and signaled access to the water at Almadrava beach yesterday morning, a ban that will be maintained as a preventive measure throughout the day today and throughout the weekend Lluís Espada, Councilor for the Environment of Roses, requests maximum citizen collaboration, 'refraining from accessing the bathing area of this beach. Although the impact does not appear to be of great concern, we maintain the measure to avoid potential risks to bathers and until fully safe access to the water can be guaranteed. As for the rest of the beach, there are no restrictions, so users can continue to access the sandy area."
