This morning took place at the Teatre Municipal de Roses the act of signing the Letter of Commitment to obtain the Biosphere certificate, a seal that accredits destinations with a responsible tourism model aimed at meeting the challenges of the agenda 2030 and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (ODS) of the United Nations. With this signature, the City Council begins the process to obtain this important certification, in which it also wants to involve the town's business and tourist services.

The "Commitment for Sustainability - Biosphere" is a program developed by the Institute of Responsible Tourism (ITR), an organization linked to UNESCO, whose main purpose is to implement more sustainable management in tourist destinations. Today, Roses City Council adheres to this program, financed by Next Generation funds, giving way to responsibility, awareness and the demand for sustainability as fundamental pillars in the management of destiny.

With the presence of entrepreneurs and professionals from the tourism sector of Roses, the mayor of the municipality, Josep Maria Martínez Chinchilla, and Francesc Vila Albet, vice-president of the Responsible Tourism Institute (ITR), have signed the Letter of Commitment that accredits that Rosin council is committed to the continuous improvement of the town's tourism model in terms of sustainability. Thus begins a procedure that must end with the establishment of protocols and action plans aimed at environmental, socio-cultural and economic improvement for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (ODS).

This morning, at the end of the signing ceremony, the representatives of the sector attending the Municipal Theatre, were able to participate in a first presentation by the Councilor for Tourism of Roses, Fèlix Llorens, from the head of the Tourism Unit of the City Council, Sara Lladó, and from the Biosphere consultant, Anna Carbonell, who presented the project and the benefits it will bring to companies and presented the Biosphere Sustainable technical platform, in charge of monitoring it.

The aim of joining this label is to contribute to economic growth that promotes sustainable and responsible tourist services, so the program is also open to the participation of the private sector, involving hotel companies and offering them the 'opportunity to participate in the program that will allow them to also be certified with the Biosphere seal.

Today, therefore, begins a process that will include an initial assessment and diagnosis of Rosin tourist services to then establish the necessary quality and sustainability objectives for the destination and implement improvement plans that must culminate in the obtaining the Biosphere seal, which will certify the good practices of the destination and of the affiliated companies in the field of sustainable tourism.

Once the Biosphere Certification has been obtained as a destination committed to sustainability, Roses will have to work annually on its action plan to pass the audits that certify that the destination not only remains committed but is continuously improving on its way to a sustainable tourism in the territory.

This action is part of the project "TURISTIC TRANSFORMATION OF ROSES - REGENERATION TOURISM ROSES" of the City Council of Roses co-financed through the Next Generation EU Funds, specifically within the program of Tourism Sustainability Plans in Destinations (PSTD), subsidies intended to the digital transformation and modernization of the administrations of local entities, extraordinary call 2021, promoted by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism.
