Roses incorporates DJ sessions on the beach into the celebration of Sant Joan's Eve
Roses will once again celebrate the Sant Joan festival on June 23rd with a program that will merge tradition, popular culture and fun, and this year includes a new proposal: a DJ session on the beach of La Perola. Another novelty will be the reception of the Canigó Flame, which this year is more open to citizen participation by moving it to the street. The night will also feature the traditional parade and lighting of the bonfire, the Fireworks Castle and dancing on the promenade.
The program will begin around 8 p.m., when the traditional arrival of the Canigó Flame is scheduled, a ritual that evokes the common identity and brotherhood between all Catalan-speaking territories, and which represents the culmination of the summer solstice. This year, the ceremony of receiving the flame and reading the manifesto will be modified and will take place publicly in Plaça Catalunya, in front of the City Hall, instead of in the plenary hall as before.
This will be followed by the giant dance by the Gegants de Roses who, starting at 10:30 p.m., will open the parade from Plaça Catalunya to the breakwater of Playa de la Punta, where the flame will light the bonfire of Sant Joan. Then, at 11 p.m., one of the highlights of the night will arrive, the great Castell de Focs Artificials which, once again, will illuminate the bay with the spectacularity of its colors and figures.
Verbena for all audiences
The fireworks will give way to music and dancing, this year with two proposals. On the one hand, at the end of the pyrotechnic show (11.15 pm), with the performance of the Banda del Drac on the promenade.
Thinking of the younger audience and those who want to extend the event, the Culture and Festivals Department is incorporating a new feature this year: a DJ session on the beach of La Perola, by DJ Adrià Giner and DJ Albert Berta, who will play from 12 midnight until 3 am.
