New protection barrier at the Bocana de Santa Margarida to prevent access during episodes of strong waves
The City Council's Infrastructure and Services Department has installed a protective barrier at the mouth of Santa Margarida, with the aim of preventing people from crossing in risky situations resulting from storms and strong waves. The barrier will be closed as a preventive measure when it is dangerous to access the breakwater area.
Throughout the year, during periods of heavy rain and storms, the City Council prohibits access to the Santa Margarida breakwater to prevent people from passing through and to prevent the dangers caused by strong waves. Until now, this signaling was done by placing fences or police tape that, as they were not fixed elements, could be easily damaged or removed to access the breakwater, which entailed a high risk of accident for people who violated the prohibition of passage.
From now on, this space will become safer thanks to the installation of a barrier that will remain raised or closed depending on the situation at any given time. In this way, pedestrian passage on the breakwater can be restricted more quickly and effectively when sea conditions require it.
The councilor for Infrastructure and Services of Roses, Lluís Espada , points out that " everyone must be aware of the need to be extremely cautious in situations of strong waves. For this reason, we call on citizens to respect at all times the signage and access restrictions that are activated in cases of storms, always avoiding accessing breakwaters and any space that may represent a danger.
